Review: If you were to take a bunch of old Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Anthrax albums, let them breed, then infuse the progeny with a dose of Swedish Melodic Metal influence and just a hint of Manowar, you might just about have Midnight Idöls' sound captured.
These guys have actually been together for a few years in Seattle, but, sadly, for some reason have gone mainly unnoticed in the Metal scene here.
I found them purely by sheer luck (or perhaps divine intervention!) when I was at work the other day. I kept hearing these bits and pieces of some stellar Metal from outside the building, and I had to go and find it. So I dropped what I was doing and followed my ears around back to where some bands rent studio space, waited for a break in the music and knocked on the door. Well, they were totally friendly and told me about the band and stuff. I hung around for a while and listened to what they were working on at the time, which hopefully will be recorded and released on a new CD SOON and I left with a handful of copies of their first CD, "We Rule the Night", which has subsequently been spinning in my CD player practically nonstop!

They bill themselves as NWOBHM, but I would be more inclined to call them Power Metal, which, as they told me, seems to be the general consensus of their fans.

Review: The 10 tracks on their self recorded and produced demo are all pretty straightforward Metal and nothing really new in style, but that doesn't keep it from being damn solid!! Lots of hooks, major aggression, awesome guitars & truly talented vocals make this album well worth picking up for any self respecting Metalhead.

Most of the content on "We Rule the Night" is a couple years old, and the band now has a new bassist and guitarist, a professional producer and a real studio to work in and from what I heard, the new material is definitely more complex, inspired and fresh, without falling into the "experimental" or mainstream trap that so many bands have done, so do all you can to support these guys by buying merchandise, attending their shows and anything else you can to help them get another album out ASAP! Cause they really DO "Rule the Night"!

Review of:Concert
Date/Venue:July 20th 2003 at The Showbox in Seattle
review: The Showbox is definitely a better venue for a good show than Graceland. The acoustics weren't hindered by any strange architecture, and the dome structure over the pit even helps it a bit. Not the usual crap this venue usually has...maybe I'll be back! The crowd was warmed up by Soilwork, Chimera, and Unearthed. They all did well, but nothing compared to the stage prescence and sounds of personally my favorite band. Definitely an A+ show. If you missed it....You suck...But they'll be back next year.
